I am a 66-year-old woman, and a few weeks ago, I went through one of the most difficult experiences of my life. It all started with swelling and pain in my right leg. At first, I thought it was something small - maybe a minor infection. But soon, the pain became unbearable, my leg turned red and hot, and I began to feel feverish and weak. My family rushed me to the hospital, where the doctors told me I had severe cellulitis of the right lower limb, and that the infection had already spread, causing sepsis. I was immediately admitted. The doctors and nurses started me on IV antibiotics and other supportive treatments. I remember being scared, but everyone reassured me that I was in good hands. Despite the medicines, my leg continued to swell, and the doctors decided that a mini fasciotomy with abscess drainage had to be done to remove the infection and relieve the pressure. The surgery was done carefully, and after that, I had daily dressings and debridement.
The nurses were gentle and encouraging, even when the pain made me want to give up. Slowly, I began to feel better. The redness reduced, my fever came down, and I finally started to walk a little again. After several days of treatment and care, the doctors said I was fit to go home. They advised me to come regularly to the OPD for dressing and follow-up. As I left the hospital, I felt thankful-not just because I was healing, but because of the kindness and attention I received from everyone who cared for me. This experience taught me how serious infections can become, and how important it is to seek help early. Today, as I continue to recover, I'm filled with gratitude for the team that helped me through this journey.
